A police investigation was under way today to trace an arsonist who left his trousers at the scene of a blaze.

Officers in Leamington, Warwickshire, said a pair of men's jeans were recovered from a fire on a sports court in the Whitnash area of the town last night.

A Warwickshire Police spokeswoman said: "Amongst the items left burning on the court was a pair of men's jeans, indicating that one of the offenders may have gone home without his trousers."

Appealing for witnesses who may have spotted the half-naked arsonist, the spokeswoman said: "Do you know who it is?

"Did a member of your family return home last night without his trousers or did you see anyone walking through Whitnash only partially dressed?"

The fire, in Acre Close at around 7.20pm, caused damage to the sports court, an electric junction box and wire fencing, police said.

Anyone with any information is urged to call Leamington police station on 01926 415 000 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
