Arrests in police check on pub, club and shop licences

Almost 250 people have been arrested in a crackdown to enforce licensing laws, police said.

In one of Scotland Yard's biggest operations of the year, more than 3,000 officers were deployed at pubs, clubs and shops in London to curb licensing breaches.

Police said 248 arrests were made in the capital on Friday night after officers went to 3,042 premises and identified 317 breaches of the law.
