British Transport Police (BTP) may get armed response units, after the chairman of its officers' federation said it could not rely on receiving firearms support from other forces for long-term terror threats.
The BTP, which guards the rail network, is the only UK force with no armed capability. Officers are not authorised to use firearms on duty, so any armed units must be supplied from local forces.
