Allegations that former boxing world champion Amir Khan assaulted two teenagers in Bolton on Friday morning have been withdrawn, police have confirmed.
The 27-year-old Olympic silver medallist was arrested on suspicion of assault following an incident involving two men in the Greater Manchester town, at around 1:30am on Friday.
Officers arrested the boxer and questioned him for several hours over two allegations of common assault. He was released on bail the same day.
Neither men sustained serious injuries during the incident, police officers told the Bolton News at the time.
Greater Manchester Police confirmed that the allegations were withdrawn on Monday, following a statement by Mr Khan’s management.
A spokesman for Mr Khan described the incident in Russell Street in the fighter's home town as “a misunderstanding between Amir Khan and two other youths”.
“On Monday July 7, Amir was notified by the police that the allegations against him had been withdrawn and the matter would not be pursued any further,” he added.
