The father of Amber Peat discovered his daughter was missing by reading about it on Facebook, it has been reported.

Amber was reported missing on 30 May 2015, when she disappeared from her home after what police described as a "minor argument" about household chores, after returning from a family holiday to Cornwall.

Her body was found on Wednesday, a short distance from her home in Mansfield, Nottinghamshire, and police are not treating the death as suspicious.

Relatives of Adrian Cook, 39, her biological father, told the Sunday Times that he only learned she had disappeared by reading about it online.

Jennifer Lancaster, Adrian Cook’s mother, said: "It's a disgrace he had to find out this way.

"The whole family is devastated.

"But I don't know how things have got to this."

At the time of her disappearance, it was reported that she had no contact with Mr Cook.

Nottinghamshire Police have been approached for comment.
