Adam Johnson was arrested for possessing images of bestiality on his laptop, it can now be reported.
The former England footballer's phone and laptop were sezied when he was arrested at his home in County Durham in March last year.
The 28-year-old was then re-arrested on suspicion of possessing images of extreme pornography, it can be reported after restrictions were lifted. Johnson was told by police he will face no further action for possessing the pictures.
Johnson also browsed a website called "Nice Young Teens", which featured explicit images but was not deemed to be unlawful, the Guardian's Josh Haliday reported.
The pre-trial hearings also heard how police found medicines in a safe when Johnson was arrested.
Passing a six-year prison sentence, Judge Jonathan Rose said: "This will be your first prison sentence, this is all entirely your fault."
The former Sunderland and Manchester City winger was found guilty of sexual activity with a teenager. He also admitted another charge of sexual activity a child, and said he groomed the girl. He was cleared of one further count of sexual activity with a child earlier this month.
Facebook removed a page named "Justice for Johnson" which allegedly bore a number of comments about his victim which were deemed inappropriate.
