23-year-old man arrested on suspicion of raising funds for terrorism
A man has been arrested on suspicion of raising funds for terrorism, it has been reported.
Thames Valley Police officers swooped on the 23-year-old man, who has been taken for questioning by officers in the South East Counter Terrorism Unit, according to reports.
The man’s name has not been confirmed but Police have said that the arrest was related to an investigation into activities overseas and that the operation was planned and was not in response to an imminent threat to public safety.
Superintendent Christian Bunt told the Oxford Mail: “I would like to reassure the community that this investigation should have very little impact on local residents.”
The paper reported that the man was arrested on suspicion of fundraising for the purposes of terrorism, contrary to Section 15 of The Terrorism Act 2000 and on suspicion of failing to disclose information in order to make a gain, contrary to Section 3 of the Fraud Act 2006.
