22 years for drug'n'fish smugglers

Two men have been jailed for trying to smuggle cocaine into Britain in bags of live tropical fish.

Olaf Urlik, 33, and Norbert Jarzabek, 32, were sentenced to a total of 22 years yesterday. The two men, both Polish, had tried to smuggle 17kg of high-grade cocaine, with an estimated street value of £1.6m, into the UK.

The drug was dissolved in bags of fluid and stored with the fish in larger bags; 16,000 fish died in the attempt. The rest were taken to London Zoo to recover.
