Twelve people have been arrested and one man seriously injured after a large scale fight in Oxford city centre, police said today.

Officer received reports of the fight, at around 4.10am, involving a group of men in Gloucester Green.

Three men in their early twenties were taken to the John Radcliffe hospital in the city to receive treatment for injuries sustained in the fight and two remain in hospital - one in a serious but stable condition.

Detective Inspector Steve Duffy from Thames Valley Police said: "Although we are in the early stages of the investigation, we have made a number of arrests already and will continue to arrest anyone we believe to be involved in this morning's disorder.

"It was still fairly busy at the time of the fight and I am sure there are people who saw what happened, and have not yet spoken to the police.

"For us to be able to carry out a thorough investigation, we need anyone with information about the incident, to come forward and speak to us."
