A CORONER asked yesterday for additional extra evidence to establish see if the leukaemia death of a government scientist was linked to his exposure to chemical dusts and other substances while employed at various defence establishments.
Keith Chesterton, the Isle of Wight coroner, Keith Chesterton adjourned the inquest for three months to see if further light could be shed on the death of retired scientist Peter Rowcroft, 64, a retired scientist who died from leukaemia last August.
No details were given on about which establishments Mr Rowcroft worked at, but these are expected to be identified when the inquest resumes in July.
The inquest at Newport heard was only give post-mortem evidence on Mr Rowcroft, of Graeme Road, Norton, who died in the intensive care unit at St Mary's Hospital, Newport, on 25 August.
Pathologist Dr Rajiv Joshi, a pathologist, said his the leukaemia had triggered a thrombosis and ruptured the spleen, from which he Mr Rowcroft eventually died.
The inquest heard was told that Mr Rowcroft , a married man, had taken early retiremement from his work for the government. No further evidence was heard.
