The judges upheld his appeal on the basis that the original trial judge should not have directed the jury that the evidence of the women was capable of offering mutual corroboration because there was a real risk that any one of the complainant's accounts might have been 'contaminated' by any other. 27/3/17
A consultant psychiatrist found guilty of five indecent assaults on staff was given a 12-month conditional discharge at Stoke Crown Court.
Tinnevely Ananthanarayanan, 47, of Newcastle-under-Lyme, Staffordshire, would lose his job, the court was told. Judge James Orrell said: 'The disgrace of the conviction and the terrible effect it will have on your career is almost sufficient punishment.'
The assaults happened over two years at hospitals and homes in Stoke-on-Trent. One nurse told the jury he had indecently assaulted her almost every week for 17 months.
