The suspended match for the Fide (International Chess Federation) world championship between Anatoly Karpov and Jan Timman will resume on 16 October. At the world championship match in London, Garry Kasparov leads Nigel Short by 8 1/2 -3 1/2 after a draw in the 12th game on Saturday.
