UPDATE: The man referred to in this article was acquitted of all charges made against him. A full write up of the conclusion of the case can be found at the following link.
A British man arrested in Dubai and allegedly tortured by police into making a false drug confession has been “abandoned” by the Emirati royals he was working for, his family has said.
Mr. A (name changed to protect his identity), 32, from London, was arrested after climbing into what he thought was the car of a friend while on holiday in the Gulf city last May. The former bodyguard claims he was then tortured by police and held over four days and forced to sign a confession in Arabic for cocaine possession, an offence for which he faces a potential death sentence. A verdict is expected tomorrow.
