Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Legal risks on the Internet

The legal risks of doing business on the Internet are taxing the minds of lawyers. The City solicitors Theodore Goddard and the NCC Legal Group are joining together for a seminar to be held today at Theodore Goddard's office, while DJ Freeman has produced a guidance note pointing out that "appropriate contractual arrangements" are essential in order to comply with the law and protect the interests of all parties involved.

Seminar on trademark protection

The reality of obtaining a Europe-wide injunction to protect a trademark will be considered at a seminar that is being hosted today by the City law firm Denton Hall. The event will be chaired by Liz Cratchley, head of Unilever's trademark department, and there will also be a presentation on counterfeiting by Tony Swaffield of Birmingham Trading Standards Office.

Exhibition to aid Olympic efforts

The London solicitors firm Collyer-Bristow is sponsoring an exhibition of painting, sculpture, printmaking and photography in support of the British Equestrian Olympic Fund in the gallery of its Bedford Row offices from 1 May.

Conference on legal reforms

The civil justice reform proposals being put forward by Lord Woolf are among the issues that will be discussed at the Legal Aid Practitioners Group's 1996 conference under the title the "Agenda for Change".

Constructive arguments

The "New Engineering Contract", produced in response to criticism of construction industry practices, will be reviewed at a seminar hosted by the solicitors Dickinson Dees and the consulting engineers WS Atkins at the Copthorne Hotel, Newcastle, tomorrow.
