Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. Your support makes all the difference.MPs cheered when Theresa May asked if Parliament wanted a second referendum, after the prime minister was defeated on her Brexit deal.
“This house will have to answer that question," Ms May told the Commons. "Does it wish to revoke Article 50? Does it want to hold a second referendum, or does it want to leave with a deal but not this deal?
"These are unenviable choices, but thanks to the decision the house has made this evening they must now be faced.”
As she mentioned a Final Say vote, several MPs shouted "yes”, followed immediately by others shouting “no”.
Shortly afterwards, another MP also shouted: “What about a general election?”
The prime minister's deal was voted down by a majority of 149.
Parliament will vote tomorrow on the option of leaving the European Union without a deal on 29 March, which Ms May said would be a “free vote” for her MPs.
