Nearly 100 National Health Service staff will be made redundant from Cardiff Royal Infirmary under management plans to bring its overspent budget back into balance.
The Cardiff job losses, the first at any Welsh hospital since the Government's re-organisation of the NHS last year, include 30 nurses and amount to 5 per cent of the Infirmary workforce. Management put the hospital's deficit at around pounds 700,000, although unions estimate the figure at pounds 1.6m.
