Thrust foiled by high winds

High winds again forced the Thrust SuperSonic Car team to delay an attempt last night to break the sound barrier on land.

The British team had hoped the weather would be calm enough for its car to make a run at supersonic speed ( at current temperatures some 760mph) on Nevada's remote Black Rock desert. "The wind just did not drop," said Richard Noble, the team leader. The team would reassess the situation but the weather did not look promising.
