Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Flower urges caution as England look down from top

England coach Andy Flower has insisted his players are not getting ahead of themselves as they prepare for the final Tests of a series that could result in them being named the best side in the world. Andrew Strauss’s side went into a 2-0 lead in the four-Test series against India after wrapping up a convincing 319-run victory at Trent Bridge on Monday – a lead that, if maintained, would see them usurp their visitors as the No 1 ranked team in the world. “It’s important for the side that it’s not at the forefront of our minds,” Flower said ahead of next week’s third Test in Birmingham. “We should be resting and recuperating after back-to-back Tests and then getting our minds and bodies ready for the next challenge at Edgbaston. “It’s not only pointless looking further ahead than that, it’s dangerous. We’re ahead in the series but we’re only halfway through. It’s important our players and management keep feet firmly on the ground.” MORE
