Roy Hodgson said yesterday that one of his first tasks as England manager was to resolve any potential differences between John Terry and Rio Ferdinand over the race case involving Ferdinand's brother Anton that threatens to divide the squad ahead of the European Championship. "I'll have to get in touch with John and Rio to speak with them, hopefully face to face, and find out where they are in this situation," said Hodgson. Champion dies after cardiac arrest
Alexander Dale Oen, Norway's first swimming world champion and widely fancied to win gold at this summer's Olympics, was yesterday found dead at a training camp in Arizona. The 26-year-old breaststroker is believed to have suffered a cardiac arrest. MORE
Wigan to host St Helens in quarters
Holders Wigan Warriors will be at home to their arch-rivals St Helens in the quarter-finals of the Challenge Cup. The only Championship side left in the competition, Leigh Centurions, will host the Super League champions Leeds Rhinos. MORE
Hendry retires
Stephen Hendry announced his retirement from tournament play last night after losing 13-2 to fellow Scot Stephen Maguire in their World Championship quarter-final at the Crucible. Hendry, 43, was seven times world champion.
