West Ham land Cup clash with United

Manchester United will visit West Ham United in the FA Cup third round, while Premier League champions Manchester City entertain Watford. Arsenal travel to Swansea and QPR face West Bromwich Albion. Newcastle manager Alan Pardew retains the backing of his board as the club struggle for form. "They've given me massive support," he said after seven matches without a win ahead of tonight's visit of Wigan. "Unfortunately we've had a real turn of events in terms of injuries." MORE

An improvised injury-time backheel from Jon Otsemobor helped MK Dons defeat AFC Wimbledon 2-1 to earn a trip to Sheffield Wednesday. Stephen Gleeson's opener for the Dons was equalised by Jack Midson. Leyton Orient won 4-2 at non-league Alfreton. MORE

Bell tolls for Jonny over Test position

Ian Bell is favourite to be chosen for the final batting spot in the England team for the third Test with India, which starts on Wednesday. "If I get the nod, that's great," said the new father, who is likely to be chosen ahead of Jonny Bairstow. MORE

Halfpenny all-clear after neck scare

Wales full-back Leigh Halfpenny was yesterday discharged from hospital with his neck injury not as severe as was first feared. The 23-year-old suffered the scare in attempting to stop Australia's winning try at Cardiff on Saturday. MORE

Trump dumped out by world No 50

Judd Trump was a surprise casualty in the opening round of the UK Championship yesterday, losing 6-5 to world No 50 Mark Joyce. Trump led 5-2 after an early century break before Joyce reeled off four frames in succession to cause a major upset. MORE

Kaymer ends 2012 with first victory

Martin Kaymer won his first tournament of 2012 in Sun City yesterday, pocketing a $1.25m cheque after taking the Nedbank Golf Challenge by two shots. Home favourite Charl Schwartzel was second. MORE
