Dream Braga has been shooting fish with a bow and arrow for most of his life. Now Braga, 18, is one of seven indigenous youths chosen for their archery skills by a programme that aims to get them competing in international archery competitions for Brazil.
After training with Olympic coaches for three months, he has now been promoted to Brazil’s national team.
Falcons swoop to sign up prop Welsh
Newcastle Falcons have signed the Scotland international Jon Welsh on a two-year deal. The 28-year-old loose-head prop has agreed a summer switch from Glasgow Warriors ahead of the 2015-16 season.
Welsh scored a try against Wales in the Six Nations last month before being ruled out for the rest of the tournament with a fractured hand.
Gerrard could give Ryder team talk
Darren Clarke says he could ask Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard to address Europe’s Ryder Cup team before they face the United States at Hazeltine next year.
Clarke, who was selected as captain of the European team in February, described Gerrard as a “real legend” and said: “If I were to do something like that, he would be someone I would consider.”
Skrtel denies FA charge for stamp
Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel has denied an FA charge of violent conduct for standing on the Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea. Video evidence was used to charge the centre-back after the incident in Sunday’s 2-1 United win at Anfield was missed by referee Martin Atkinson. A three-man panel reviewed the footage independently of each other and agreed the offence warranted a red card.
Robben faces two months out injured
Bayern Munich winger Arjen Robben faces up to eight weeks out with torn stomach muscles. The 31-year-old sustained the injury during his club’s 2-0 defeat to Borussia Mönchengladbach in the Bundesliga on Sunday. It means the Netherlands will be without Robben for their Euro 2016 qualifier against Turkey on Saturday and next Tuesday’s friendly with Spain.
