Swansea fight back to grab home point

Swansea last night drew 2-2 with Liverpool, a result which puts the Merseysiders top of the table. The Swans went in front through Jonjo Shelvey, who then gifted Liverpool two goals as Daniel Sturridge and Victor Moses made it 2-1, before Michu levelled for the home side. MORE

Mark Cavendish suffered  disappointment as Gerald Ciolek claimed a sprint finish to win the second stage of the Tour of Britain. He pipped Sam Bennett to the finish line in Kendal to become the new race leader. Cavendish finished 47 seconds behind.

Cabaye apologises to Newcastle fans

Yohan Cabaye has said sorry to Newcastle fans after his attempt to leave the club last month. Cabaye was linked with a move to Arsenal and he said: “If the fans were, or still are, mad at me then I understand and I apologise.” MORE

Ahead of Manchester City’s Champions League opener away at Viktoria Plzen tonight, manager Manuel Pellegrini outlined how crucial it is that his City players “feel they have the capacity, and the confidence, to compete at this level”.

Lee faces life ban for match-fixing

England’s Stephen Lee was found guilty of match-fixing  yesterday. The 38-year-old former world No 5 was found guilty over seven matches. His punishment will be announced at a hearing next Tuesday and a lifetime ban is possible.

Cilic to fight drugs suspension

Marin Cilic will appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport after being banned for nine months by the International Tennis Federation for a failed drugs test. He tested positive for stimulant nikethamide. MORE

Dikgacoi echoes Moyes’ call for FA to punish divers

Crystal Palace midfielder Kagisho Dikgacoi, who was at the centre of the Ashley Young diving controversy at the weekend, has joined Manchester United’s manager, David Moyes, in calling on the Football Association to punish simulation retrospectively.

The South African international who was dismissed on Saturday after referee Jon Moss ruled he had denied Young a clear goalscoring opportunity.

Young had also been booked for diving earlier in the match after he stuck his leg into Dikgacoi and was publicly admonished by Moyes, with the United manager stating yesterday that he would welcome the introduction of video evidence to clamp down on the practice.              

Dikgacoi, above, welcomed Moyes’ stance and admitted that Moss had been put in an impossible position. “I agree there should be a chance to take some action [afterwards],” he said yesterday. “This has created a bad vibe after the game because it is making things difficult for the referee.” MORE

Donald lands spot at tour’s finale

Luke Donald recorded a closing round of 66 – with five birdies in six holes on the back nine – at the BMW Championship at  Conway Farms yesterday. The score propelled Donald, right, into the top 30 of the Fed-Ex Cup rankings and a place in the PGA Tour’s final event of 2013, the Tour Championship at East Lake. Donald started the week in 54th spot, but his late surge saw him finish 28th. The Englishman is a month into his relationship with new long-game coach Chuck Cook as he tries to halt a slide that has led to him dropping out of the world’s top 10.
