Elissa Downie, 15, has made history by winning Great Britain’s first ever women’s major championships all-round medal after clinching bronze at the European Championships in Montpellier.
The Nottingham gymnast navigated the four apparatus to attain a score of 56.623 and the bronze medal.
“It’s ridiculous! I can’t believe what’s just happened,” said Downie.

Sir Bradley Wiggins’ rock-star appeal has shown no sign of waning as tickets for his Hour Record attempt on 7 June sold out in seven minutes. The 34-year-old four-time Olympic champion and 2012 Tour de France winner will attempt to cycle the furthest distance in 60 minutes at the 6,000-capacity Lee Valley VeloPark, formerly known as the Olympic Velodrome.
Davies surges to the top of the class
Chaz Davies produced a wonderful final lap to lead after the opening two practice sessions of the World Superbike Championship’s fourth round in Assen yesterday. The Welshman, third in the standings, responded to the challenge of former champion Tom Sykes and current leader Jonathan Rea to top the classification by 0.320 seconds.
Djokovic books date with Nadal
A near flawless Novak Djokovic crushed Marin Cilic 6-0, 6-3 to set up a blockbuster Monte Carlo Masters semi-final with clay-court king Rafael Nadal, who came through a testing workout by David Ferrer.
On the other side of the draw, Frenchman Gaël Monfils beat Bulgaria’s Grigor Dimitrov 6-1, 6-3 to set up a meeting with Czech Tomas Berdych.
Spieth back in hunt at RBC Heritage
Masters champion Jordan Spieth shot a nine-under 62 yesterday to get back in contention at the RBC Heritage. He had opened with a three-over 74 in the first round but recovered with the second-lowest round ever at Harbour Town Golf Links to move him from tied for 94th and outside the cut line yesterday morning to tied for fifth and three shots behind leader Matt Kuchar.
