Rob Konrad once played for the Dolphins – and last Wednesday the former Miami full-back acted like one in order to save his life, by swimming nine miles to shore after falling from his fishing boat off the South Florida Coast.
Mark Barney of the US Coast Guard told ABC News that Konrad who played 82 games for the Dolphins in six seasons between 1999 and 2004 was in the Atlantic Ocean for between 10 and 12 hours.
Friends are said to have become concerned when Konrad did not meet them for dinner. The 38-year-old was found by the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office at 4.40am on Thursday morning.
City red-faced over Lampard’s move
Manchester City are in a row over the decision to deny Frank Lampard the chance to leave for the US this month. Lampard issued a statement indicating it had not been his choice to renege on his promise to be an MLS player for New York City’s new campaign. City then admitted they had misled MLS fans in stating on NYCFC’s website that Lampard had signed a contract from August 2014.
Roche: It was lucky my goal was filmed
Stephanie Roche, whose volley for Peamount United against Wexford Youths is up for Fifa’s goal of the year award, says it was lucky it was filmed. “Sometimes the games are not recorded,” she said. “It was a lucky break that we were playing down there and that it was videoed.”
Bruce: I offered support to Oldham
Hull manager Steve Bruce says he was one of the three Premier League managers who contacted Oldham to give his support to their plan to sign convicted rapist Ched Evans – and feels Evans has a chance of having his conviction overturned. “When you do look at the case and look at the evidence then certainly Ched has got a case. For me, the appeal can’t come quick enough for Ched,” said Bruce.
Cardiff back in blue as Tan bows to fans
Cardiff City will revert to their traditional blue home kit with immediate effect – thanks to owner Vincent Tan’s mum, who helped persuade him to change the colour. The news came after a meeting between club officials and fans to discuss the controversial rebranding exercise, which resulted in the home kit changing to red in 2012. The blue shirt will be worn when they play Fulham today.
