Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Michael Phelps has announced he will take a break from swimming in order to confront his personal issues following his arrest for alleged drink driving last week. “The past few days have been extremely difficult,” Phelps said. “I recognise that this is not my first lapse in judgement, and I am extremely disappointed with myself. I’m going attend a programme that will provide the help I need to better understand myself.”
Brilliant Treve wins second Arc

Brown: Celtic ‘hid’ in shock defeat
Celtic captain Scott Brown accused his team of hiding during their shock 1-0 defeat at home to Hamilton. Ali Crawford gave Accies their first win at Parkhead for 76 years and put them top of the Premiership. Brown said he was “devastated”, adding: “We missed a few chances but at the end we didn’t deserve anything. We didn’t play. We didn’t have enough movement. People were just hiding.”
