Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Cardiff manager Malky Mackay heaped praise on Steven Caulker (right) after the defender scored to ensure his side beat Swansea 1-0 in the first all-Welsh Premier League game yesterday.
Mackay said of Caulker: “He’s our captain and I think he’s going to have a long international career with England.”
Asked if he had been congratulated by the club’s controversial owner Vincent Tan after the game, Mackay said: “I’ve not spoken to the owner,” adding: “What I’m delighted about is that performance and the three points for our fans, our staff and our players. They’ve all had a tough three to four weeks to endure.”
Swansea’s manager, Michael Laudrup was understandably downbeat. He said: “We had four chances in the game, they only had one, so disappointment is the best word to describe how we all feel right now.
“You have to take the defeat and say ‘OK we lost this time’, accept it – and remember there’s always a next time.” MORE
