Salford owner Marwan Koukash was angered after his side crashed out of the Challenge Cup with a 30-20 fifth-round defeat at home to Widnes. “I have done all I can,” he tweeted. “The players need to respect the shirt they wear.”

Liverpool strikers Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge were last night named in the PFA Premier League team of the year. The 50-goal partners were joined by colleague Steven Gerrard in the select XI, with Luke Shaw, Adam Lallana and Everton’s Seamus Coleman also included.
Marquez maintains perfect title defence
Marc Marquez won his third successive race to continue his fine defence of the MotoGP championship with victory in Argentina yesterday. The win made him the first driver in 43 years to win three races from pole at the start of a campaign.
