Rosberg victory overshadowed by tyre controversy

A second victory in three races for Mercedes driver Nico Rosberg was overshadowed at the British Grand Prix as a number of cars suffered blown tyres.

The German, pictured, held off a late challenge from Mark Webber to take the chequered flag, but the six tyre mishaps left the drivers threatening a boycott.

“It is unacceptable really,” Ferrari’s Felipe Massa, one of the drivers to suffer, said. “For sure we are going to discuss about that [boycott]. I am 100 per cent sure that every driver is complaining about today.” MORE

Favourite Chris Froome put down an ominous marker for the remainder of the Tour de France as he briefly led yesterday’s second stage in Corsica. “It’s always good to keep people on their toes,” the Briton said. Jan Bakelants, of Belgium, took the stage honours. MORE
