Thousands of police are hunting for a former Los Angeles officer suspected of killing three people, including a former colleague. Christopher Dorner, 33, who was recently fired, allegedly wrote: "I will bring unconventional and asymmetrical warfare to those in LAPD uniform whether on or off duty."
Hamas and Fatah may form coalition
The Hamas and Fatah factions could form a unity government led by Hamas leader Khaled Mashal. Mr Mashal said there had been talks between leaders of both parties about them forming a new government. He told BBC's Hardtalk that long-stalled elections would follow soon after. MORE
Cabinet rejects PM's plan to dissolve it

A health worker who allegedly dragged a 73-year-old patient by the collar at Stafford Hospital is to face a disciplinary tribunal within days. At least four doctors and 10 nurses face public professional misconduct hearings over failings at Mid Staffordshire NHS Foundation Trust. MORE
Rise in number of multiple births
More than 170 sets of triplets and three sets of quadruplets were born in the UK in 2011 as the number of multiple births rose, official figures have revealed. In 2011, 11,330 women in England and Wales gave birth to more than one baby, the Office for National Statistics said.
New BofE Governor defends £800k pay
The next Governor of the Bank of England, Mark Carney, has been forced to defend his £800,000-a-year salary by MPs. Mr Carney, a Canadian, is set to receive base pay of £480,000 and a £250,000 housing allowance – but said London's living costs made this justifiable. MORE

Danielle Steel is the only writer to have featured in the top 10 most-borrowed authors at UK libraries every year since records began 30 years ago. Steel, pictured, is said to be the biggest-selling living author and has clocked up 10 million loans since Britain's Public Lending Right scheme began listing the most popular books in 1983.
Sobering moment for vodka sculpture
A monument to a bottle of vodka has been deliberately toppled amid fears that it could be seen as an illegal advert for the country's favourite tipple. The three-metre metal sculpture had become a landmark in Glazov, 600 miles east of Moscow. President Vladimir Putin signed a ban on all alcohol advertising last year.
Firework firm posits its big bang theory
Shops were told to stop selling "Tokyo Big Bang" fireworks amid fears it could further damage relations with Japan, a manufacturer claims. The two countries are arguing over tiny islands in the East China Sea, but authorities told the company: "We should not damage the China-Japan friendship."

Had food costs risen in line with house prices over the past 40 years, we would be buying a carton of milk for £10 and a roast chicken for £51, according to housing charity Shelter. It said the value of a typical house has increased from £5,632 in 1971 to £245,319 today. At the same rate, six bananas would now cost £8.47.
