Stephen Colbert helps Donald Trump figure out who George Papadopoulos is
Not quite, 'some random young person he's barely heard of, like Tiffany'

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Stephen Colbert decided to give Donald Trump a little bit of a helping hand.
It seems the president is struggling to remember who exactly this George Papadopoulos is, who was arrested months ago, pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI, and has been cooperating with Mueller's Russian electing-meddling investigation ever since.
While rummaging through the "Take a lie/Leave a lie" tray, according to Colbert, Trump came up with the following tweet: "few people knew the young, low level volunteer named George, who has already proven to be a liar. Check the DEMS!"
"George" may be, according to Trump, "some random young person he's barely heard of, like Tiffany"; yet, when asked by The Washington Post during the campaign who his foreign policy advisors were, Trump confidently noted: "George Papadopoulos - he's an oil and energy consultant. Excellent guy."
Colbert then showed a photo of Papadopoulos sitting in on a meeting during the campaign, at which Trump and Jeff Sessions were also present - one "so pale that Greek is the diversity hire".
Yesterday, White House spokesperson and "angry woman behind you at Target" Sarah Huckabee Sanders attempted to dismiss the photo, stating Papadopoulos was "a volunteer member of an advisory council that literally met one time."
"And I'm telling you, that literally doesn't matter. Did you not go to health class? Collusion is like pregnancy. It only takes one time, girl. Protect yourself," Colbert responded.
