Your support makes all the difference.A RANGERS football supporter who stabbed a teenage rival Celtic fan to death after an "Old Firm" derby match in Glasgow was jailed for life yesterday.
David Hutton, 21, and Peter Rushford, 22, of Glasgow, attacked 16-year- old Thomas McFadden after Rangers' Scottish Cup Final victory over Celtic on 29 May. The boy was stabbed four times, including twice through the heart.
Hutton, of no fixed address, was found guilty of murder by the jury at the High Court in Glasgow. Rushford was found not guilty of murder but was given a one-year sentence for assault.
The men showed no emotion as Lord Caplan passed sentence. He told them: "You have been found guilty of a despicable crime. It was a particularly mean assault ... The court takes a particularly dim view of football violence and this was a particularly nasty incident."
Hutton and Rushford denied murdering the teenager.Hutton told the jury: "I did not mean for him to die. I'm not a monster; I made a very stupid mistake. I pulled the knife out and stabbed him and the knife came back on me and cut me and I opened it up and stabbed him again. I'm disgusted with myself, I'm ashamed of myself I just can't believe I did it."
Rushford admitted the teenager might still be alive if he had not chased and assaulted him. Rushford was joined in the attack by Hutton.
