TWO SKIERS were injured, one seriously, in an avalanche near the village of Jougne in the Jura mountains of eastern France yesterday.

A 24-year-old woman from the area, who was found under about four metres (12ft) of snow, was described as being in a "very critical" condition in a nearby hospital.

Eighteen people have been killed in avalanches this month after record snowfalls in the mountains of eastern France.
