Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

If, like us, you’re unable to hang a mirror or decorate a room without first lusting over perfectly-poised homeware photos on Pinterest, you’ll be happy to learn the social media platform has just announced its biggest home decor trends in 2019.

The ‘Pinterest 100: The top trends for 2019’ outlines the new year’s trends that everyone will be pinning and sharing, covering everything from fashion and food to travel and health.

Analysing search behaviour of more than 250 million users around the world, Pinterest has honed in on what’s increasingly peaked our interest for a period of six months or longer this year to find out the next biggest trends.

When it comes to home decor, homebodies are searching everything from day-to-day DIY projects (which makes up 83 per cent of home searches) to remodels and landscaping.

So, without further ado, here are Pinterest’s top home decor trends for 2019. Paint brushes at the ready, people!

1. Yellow fever

Big Bird. The Beatles’ submarine. Rihanna’s Met Gala 2015 ‘pizza’ dress. Our love of yellow shows no sign of stopping with searches for mustard yellow reaching over 45 per cent this year. When it comes to decor, 2019 is the time to embrace bold mustard yellow walls and experiment with accents of colour with accessories (think pillows, throws, frames etc).

2. Light it up

The flora choice of millennials across the world, succulents are growing in interest (we didn’t think it could get any more popular either) in the new year, with searches for cactus arrangements up 235 per cent. Your windowsill is in for a treat.
