The Earl of Iveagh, of Castleknock, County Dublin, Chairman of Arthur Guinness Son & Co 1962-86, left estate in England and Wales valued at pounds 13,670,268 net.

The Right Rev Ernest John Tinsley, of Eynsham, Oxfordshire, Bishop of Bristol 1976-85, and former Professor of Theology at Leeds, left estate valued at pounds 301,077 net.

Sir Lionel Henry Lamb, of Hartingfordbury, Hertfordshire, former Ambassador to Switzerland and Charge d'Affaires in Peking, left estate valued at pounds 397,408 net.

Professor Henry McIlwain, of Bridgnorth, Salop, former Professor of Biochemistry at the Institute of Psychiatry, left estate valued at pounds 390,167 net. He left pounds 8,000 to the Biochemistry Society of London, to establish an award to assist postgraduate students in meeting travelling expenses to neuro-chemical meetings.

Professor Richard Martin Harrison, of Oxford, Professor of Roman Archaeology at All Souls College, Oxford, left estate valued at pounds 79,083 net.

Maj-Gen Basil Douglas Jones, of Sutton Courtenay, Oxfordshire, Inspector of the Royal Army Ordnance Corps 1958-60, left estate valued at pounds 188,204 net.

Air Marshal Sir Charles Edward Chilton, of Henley-on-Thames, Oxfordshire, former Commander-in-Chief of RAF Coastal Command, left estate valued at pounds 492,596 net.

Brigadier Terence Hugh Clarke, of Chichester, West Sussex, former Conservative MP for Portsmouth West, left estate valued at pounds 180,965 net.

Mrs Jean Symington Macnaught, of London SW7, left estate valued at pounds 2,324,926 net.

Mr Francis Alfred Hobbs, of Usk, Gwent, left estate valued at pounds 2,051,542 net. He died intestate.

Mr Arthur Frederick Tilley, of Caversham, Berkshire, left estate valued at pounds 1,477,088 net.

Mrs Diane Eira Claude Harvey, of Ramsbury, Wiltshire, left estate valued at pounds 1,299,696 net.

Mr Ronald Acheson Shortis, of Farnham, Surrey, left estate valued at pounds 1,539,608 net.

Mr Russell Reginald Hammond Grant, of Grimsby, South Humberside, left estate valued at pounds 1,910,010 net.

Mr David Frederick Cock, Great Dunmow, Essex, left estate valued at pounds 3,145,088 net. He left pounds 1,000 to New Street United Reformed Church, Great Dunmow; pounds 500 each to Dunmow Football Club, Dunmow Cricket Club and Essex County Cricket Club; land at Great Dunmow to Great Dunmow Council, to provide recreational facilities for people living in Great Dunmow; a number of personal bequests, including a life interest in the residue to his wife, and on her death, the remainder to Bishops Stortford College.

Mrs Dorothy Patricia Shakespeare, of Dorset, left estate valued at pounds 1,765,842 net. After personal bequests she left pounds 1,000 to the Pointer Rescue Service; pounds 100 to the National Canine Defence League; and the residue for such charitable objects or purposes as her Trustees select.

Miss Margaret Saffery, of London W8, left estate valued at pounds 1,183,949 net. After personal bequests of pounds 10,000 she left the residue equally between the University Women's Club, London, the RNID, Friends of the Elderly and Gentlefolk's Help, SSAFA, the Ex-Services Mental Welfare Society, Age Concern England, Age Concern Greater London, the Abbeyfield Society, Children's Society, Disabled Living Foundation, the STA Schooners and Salvation Army.

Miss Kathleen Elsa Fell, of Budleigh Salterton, Devon, left estate valued at pounds 672,951 net. After personal bequests of pounds 15,000, she left pounds 5,000 to the Arthritis and Rheumatism Council; and the residue equally between the Imperial Cancer Research Fund and Sue Ryder Foundation.

Mr Reginald Arthur Burgess, of Weymouth, Dorset, left estate valued at pounds 255,843 net. He left his entire estate equally between Help the Aged, the RNIB, Barnardo's and the British Heart Foundation.
