US television programme the Today show pulled a scheduled interview with Amy Adams after she said that she wasn’t comfortable answering questions about the Sony hacking.

Hackers targeted Sony earlier this month - numerous embarrassing email exchanges between company bosses have been leaked and the release of Seth Rogen’s new film The Interview has been axed following the hackers threats. The move has been criticised by some for being an infringement of freedom of speech.

One of the leaked emails revealed that Sony bosses wanted to pay American Hustle's male leads more than Adams and Jennifer Lawrence.

Adams was in New York to endorse Tim Burton-directed film Big Eyes. Her interview on the Today show was part of promotional activity around the release, but her slot was cancelled after she declined to discuss the hacking.

“As a news program, the Today show doesn't allow guests to put restrictions on interviews,” a Today show spokesperson told The Hollywood Reporter.

“In this case, after hours of discussion we felt uncomfortable with the demands being made and we determined the best course of action for all parties involved was to cancel the interview.”
