From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Kim Kardashian and Kanye West’s wedding photo has depressingly made Instagram history by attracting 2.4 million likes – the most ever received by the social media platform.

The image sees the couple kissing on their wedding day in May, standing in front of a wall of white roses. Their ceremony was as predictably ostentatious as anyone could have hoped and was casually staged in a Florentine castle with music reportedly from John Legend, Andrea Bocelli and Lana Del Rey.

And the rankings don’t improve as we move further down Instagram’s most popular posts list – in second place is Justin Bieber’s picture of himself with on/off girlfriend Selena Gomez, which was liked by 1.9 million.

An equally depressing image of Ariana Grande kissing Miley Cyrus came third with 1.84 million.

The picture-sharing website attracts over 200 million each day, with 65 million pictures shared daily.

Instagram also listed its top three global destinations, of which images were shared – with London noticeably absent. Disneyland in California topped the list, followed by the Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, then in Times Square in New York.

Of London’s most popular locations to take an Instagram picture, Tower Bridge came first.

The most popular Instagram hashtag of the year was #love.
