From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. Writer and stylist Anna (her surname isn’t known), was 23 when she was allegedly the target of the photographer’s unwanted sexual advances.
She wrote to feminist website Jezebel, detailing her alleged story in which she claims she met Richardson at a restaurant opening in July 2008 where he was photographing guests.
She says she was then invited to leave for the event for an impromptu photo shoot at Richardson’s nearby studio
“Never one to turn down an ill-advised adventure or an appeal to my vanity, I said, ‘Sure!’” recalled the writer in her letter.
First, she says, she stood against the wall “portrait-style” making “goofy faces” as his assistant took pictures, before she was allegedly asked to go topless. Having had photographer friends “shoot me in various states of undress”, she obliged at which point Richardson allegedly entered the shot, according to her letter.
“He had me kind of crouch down on the floor as I moved around, posing,” she continued.
“Then, suddenly, I felt a d**k pressing into the side of my face. Terry Richardson's semi-hard penis was plunged into the outside of my cheek, and he was jabbing it into my face.”
“He pressed it to my lips. He clearly wanted a blow job and wanted it documented on camera.”
Anna made her excuses and left.
“I would have come out with the story when the incident happened, but - as pathetic as this sounds - didn't think anyone would give a shit about a non-model getting a dick, albeit a famous fashion photographer's dick, shoved in her face without any proof whatsoever,” she wrote.
I seriously regret just pushing it aside, as I have done time and time again when it comes to incidents involving myself and sexual assaults, a history that goes back to when I was a young teenager.”
Speculation that the New York Magazine is planning on running a feature supporting Richardson (which has not been confirmed) provoked the writer to share her story, saying “Add another girl to the list!”
In April, US Vogue confirmed that it has ‘no plans’ to work with Terry Richardson again, in the wake of a British model accusing the photographer of offering to shoot her for the fashion magazine in exchange for sex.
Richardson has strongly denied previous accusations made against him, calling the allegations “lies” and saying the claims were an “emotionally-charged witch-hunt” .
“I have never used an offer of work or a threat of rebuke to coerce someone into something that they did not want to do,” he wrote in a column published on the Huffington Post. He acknowledged that “sexual imagery has always been a part of my photography”
“I give everyone that I work with enough respect to view them as having ownership of their free will and making their decisions accordingly, and as such, it has been difficult to see myself as a target of revisionist history.”
