From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

A police officer has gained attention for a different kind of beat, after appearing in a video that sees him rocking out to Taylor Swift's 'Shake It Off' in his car.

Officer Jeff Davis won hearts when he was filmed on DashCam mouthing the words to one of the biggest songs of 2014.

Uploaded to Facebook by Dover Police Department, DE, the video sees Officer Davis at the wheel of his patrol car giving it some sass as he drives around in his patrol car before going completely deadpan as he passes pedestrians.

"We decided we would share some with you in a new web series called 'Dash Cam Confessionals'.

"We hope you enjoy this...and Taylor Swift, if you're watching...we're sorry."

Luckily for Dover Police Department, Taylor Swift has made it clear that she adores the video, tweeting her admiration for Officer Davis.

Since the video of Officer Davis was uploaded on 16 January it has received over 7 million views. Dover Police Department reported that Officer Davis was asked to make an appearance on Fox News, while the video is being played on CBS This Morning and Good Morning America.
