She’s built a career on writing catchy, break-up pop songs – but Taylor Swift has hit back at the media for “publicly humiliating” her about the number of boyfriends she’s had.

The singer claims she has been “shamed” into stopping dating after her “long list of ex-lovers” (to quote her own lyrics) has become the butt of jokes at award ceremonies.

She added she thought it was unfair she had been branded “boy crazy” after having dated two people in a year.

The 25-year-old told Glamour magazine: “It’s a good thing that I feel really independent and I feel that my friends are all I need. It’s kind of a sad way I got there, though, being shamed into it.

“What else is it when you have two boyfriends in one year and everyone’s calling you boy crazy, making jokes about you at awards shows? That’s public humiliation. And I don’t think it’s fair.”

Tina Fey joked during the Golden Globes earlier this year that Swift should stop dating so much and “stay away from Michael J Fox’s son”.

But some Swifties may find it hard to view the singer as a victim of the media having listened to her songs.

Singles such as “We Are Never Getting Back Together” and “I Knew You Were Trouble” are based on unhealthy former relationships, while in “Blank Space” Swift sings that she “loves the players”.

She also seems to love the game.
