Super Bowl 50: Chris Martin's daughter reassures him 'worst that can happen is you'll get turned into a meme'

Spare a thought for the pop star, who, in the age of the internet now runs the risk a career highlight being transformed into an internet meme.

This is something last year’s Super Bowl performer Katy Perry knows too well. Despite a show-stopping performance including a guest appearance by Missy Elliot, it was ultimately a man dancing out of time in a shark costume who sent the internet into a frenzy.

However this year’s performers Coldplay have already been given the heads up by frontman Chris Martin’s 11-year-old daughter, Apple.

During a press conference ahead of the show at California’s Levi Stadium, Martin told reporters: “My daughter said the sweetest thing yesterday. She said, ‘How are you feeling about the Super Bowl?’ I said, ‘Of course we’re a little bit nervous.’ She said, ‘Dad, the worst that could happen is you’ll get turned into a meme.”

Last year, Katy Perry’s “left shark” resulted in numerous memes for dancing out of time and not seeming to have a clue what was going on.

The incident still leaves such a legacy that Martin was also asked what the band’s “left shark” moment from their much anticipated performance will be, reports NME.

“We’ve got Left Shark, Middle Shark, Front Shark, Back Shark, Two Right Sharks and the reserve shark in case one of the first sharks has a problem, in which case there’s going to be a Pepsi logo flashed onscreen”, the Devon-born singer said, “No viewer at home will have any shark-based trauma.”

The coveted slot of the Super Bowl half-time performance was watched by more than 114 million people in 2015. While there are sure to be some surprises in Sunday’s show, Coldplay have confirmed they will be joined on stage by 2013’s performer Beyoncé.
