Your support makes all the difference.Steve-O, the prankster who made a name for himself on Jackass, claims he was released from prison after serving less than eight hours for climbing a crane and setting off fireworks as part of a protest against SeaWorld’s treatment of killer whales.
Steve-O, who’s real name is Stephen Glover, took to Instagram to reveal the length of jail time, which, for most people is the same as a regular working day.
Posing alongside his dog, he thanked “all of the good people at the Twin Towers Correctional Facility” for making his stay “a great one”.
According to TMZ, the Jackass star was released due to overcrowding.
The 41-year-old was sentenced to 30 days imprisonment after pleading no contest to trespassing and using fireworks. He was also ordered to stay out of the Hollywood Entertainment District and is barred from owning fireworks in the future.
The protest stunt took place on August 9, when he scaled a 100-foot crane wearing a t-shirt supporting the Blackfish documentary and carrying an inflatable killer whale (Orca).
He then set off fireworks, while around 80 firefighters gathered underneath him, all while he live-streamed the entire proceedings. He was arrested as soon as he maneuvered himself off the crane in Los Angeles.
He still remains firmly opposed to the aquamarine park, as indicated by the hashtag in his post-jail picture: #SeaWorldSucks.
In a pre-jail post he likened his incarceration to that of the killer whales, and said his imprisonment at a protest against SeaWorld is like their “lifelong sentences to those [orcas] who’ve done nothing wrong”.
In another Instagram post prior to imprisonment, the stuntman was recorded doing a backflip outside the jail, telling his 1.7million followers on Instagram: “Here I am at jail. See ya when I see ya, folks!”
