From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. Simone Biles won her second gold medal of Rio 2016 when she cruised to victory in the women's all-around competition on Thursday.

The 19-year-old is expected to continue dominating the field in next week’s apparatus finals.

Biles said: "I'm very excited and relieved because I've finally done it. You never know that feeling until it hits you.

"It's amazing to be recognised for all of this success, (but) I'm not the next Usain Bolt or Michael Phelps, I'm the first Simone Biles.

"I'm just the same Simone. I just have two Olympic gold medals now. I feel like I did my job tonight."

The internet went into melt down over her all-conquering routine which saw her unleash ‘the Biles’.

And quite rightly, she won by 2.1 points – bigger than the margin of victory from 1980-2012 combined.

Watch the video above to show her signature move, slowed down, in all its glory.
