From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

So when the man who gave the world the earworm "Stay With Me" photobombed two tourists being interviewed by a US news channel, he may have been slightly disappointed when they didn't actually recognise him.
Two female tourists were in the middle of being interviewed by a camera crew at the Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Denver, Colorado when the four-time Grammy winning star made an appearance in the shot.
Putting on a show for the cameras, the singer whose third solo single "Stay with Me" reached number two in the US Billboard Hot 100, puts up a “V” sign in between the heads of the tourists, smiles playfully at the camera and melodramatically leans back into the shot.
The reporter for ABC7 news station can be heard telling the women that they are “getting photobombed”, however they appear to have no clue who Smith is telling him to “get out of here” as he plants a “V” sign above one of the pair's head.
Another woman visiting the tourist attraction next to Smith also appears to be completely oblivious to the celebrity, taking pictures of everything except the star.
Celebrating his comic prowess Smith later posted the caption “photobombing the news” on Instagram.
Smith is in the US to resume his tour after he was reportedly forced to postpone a large number of shows in order to receive surgery for a vocal cord haemorrhage in May.
