From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The Toronto Mayor had been suffering with months of abdominal pain, which had worsened in the past 24 hours.
Humber River Hospital said in a statement that “examination and investigation has resulted in a working diagnosis of a tumour”.
“The mayor has been admitted to allow for further investigation to obtain a definitive diagnosis.”
The hospital’s Dr Rueben Devlin said they would need to determine the type of tumour by doing a biopsy.
In 2009, Ford was admitted to hospital for a tumour on his appendix, reports The Toronto Sun.
Last year, Ford admitted to using crack cocaine in a “drunken stupor”. He was admitted to rehab and returned to work in June.
He is running for re-election on 27 October.
The Canadian politician had a meeting with former boxing champion Mike Tyson earlier this week, following a request from the sportsman.
Tyson branded Ford “the best mayor in Toronto’s history”.
“He has a troubled past because he has 24-hour surveillance of the press,” said Tyson of Ford. “Do you prefer him to be a guy who's clean-cut but behind the doors you never know what he's doing? That’s what human beings have a problem with, being real with themselves.”
