Rebel Wilson has responded to rumours that she's lying about her age by joking that she's secretly an old lady.
The actor, who has starred in films such as Pitch Perfect and Bridesmaids, was accused by former classmates of being older than her stated age of 29.
Former classmates have asserted that she is actually 36 years old, and that her real name is Melanie Bownds.
Woman's Day magazine reported that someone who claims to be a former classmate of Wilson's at Tara Anglican School for Girls in Sydney said: "Her name is - or was - Melanie Bownds, and she's 36. She was born in 1979 and left school in 1997."
The anonymous source added: "She was definitely not the class clown; none of us remember her being funny.
"While Rebel paints a picture of a gypsy upbringing, her family home was certainly not in any 'ghetto.'"
Wilson responded by accusing the magazine of attacking her because she's successful.
However, formal Australian paperwork appears to back up the claims that Wilson is older, as it lists a date of birth for "Rebel Melanie Elizabeth Wilson" as March 2 1980.
Wilson's representatives did not immediately respond when contacted for comment.
During her career, Wilson has tried to send positive messages to young women.
“I think one of the good messages in the movie [Pitch Perfect 2] is that you’re all beautiful" she said.
"I think sometimes girls look at Victoria’s Secret models and think that they have to model themselves after that, but I really don’t think that’s the best, even though they are called ‘models,’ they're not the best people to model yourself after."
Pitch Perfect 2 topped the UK box office for its opening weekend, beating Mad Max: Fury Road to the top spot.
