Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Vernon Kay, 32, who hosts his Radio 1 show every Saturday and Sunday from 10am-1pm, is presenting 'Just the Two of Us' alongside his wife, Tess Daly, until Sunday on BBC 1

If I weren't talking to you right now I'd be...

Playing golf or working.

A common misperception of me is...

People say I look taller on television, which is quite scary because I'm 6ft 4ins. I tower above the crowds. I must look massive on TV. That's quite freaky.

A phrase I use far too often is...

"Nice". It's a rubbish word, but unfortunately I say it too much.

The most surprising thing that ever happened to me was...

Getting a date with my wife. That's pretty amazing. She's such a beautiful, elegant woman.

I'm good at...

Being nice to people.

But I'm very bad at...

Saying "no".

I'm not a politician but...

I'd preserve the countryside. I'd just make sure things were built in appropriate places. We've got some very precious woodland, but people don't realise their value until there's a Travelodge built on it.

I wish people would take more notice of...

Taking their litter home. I hate people who drop litter. I think people have forgotten that there's more than one person living in our society, it's not just them. I hate people throwing McDonald's cartons out of the car. It's horrible.

In moments of weakness I...

I'm never weak. I'm always strong and positive thinking.

You know me as a presenter, but in a truer life I'd have been a...

Lorry driver, because my dad's one.

The ideal night out is...

Dinner with friends and a bottle of wine. I've got all the clubbing out of my system, so just take it easy and having conversation.

The best age to be is...

Nineteen, because everything comes together then.

In a nutshell, my philosophy is this:

Life is not a dress rehearsal.
