Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Lucy Cohu, 37, is known for her Emmy and Bafta award-nominated role in Channel 4's 'The Queen's Sister'. The DVD release of 'Becoming Jane' on 10 Sep- tember sees Cohu in the role of Eliza De Feuillide. From 27 August, Cohu will also appear as Evelyn in Channel 4's seven-part drama 'Cape Wrath'.

If I weren't talking to you right now I'd be...

In the bath. Every woman likes to take a nice, long bath.

A phrase I use too often...

"Any chance you could babysit?" I have a six-year-old son. Actually, he's almost seven, which is an important detail.

I wish people would take more notice of...

Our freaky weather. It's mad, I always leave the house wearing six layers of clothes, take them off layer by layer during the day and put them back on in the evening.

The most surprising thing that happened to me was...

Finding out I was pregnant with my son on Millennium eve; I was shocked and thrilled at the same time.

I am not a politician but...

A lot of wankers are. We all know that we are being over-regulated and that we should never have gone to war with Iraq.

A common misperception of me is...

That I'm posh - not true.

I'm good at...

Dancing and kissing. They are my favourite activities and they both make me feel really great.

I'm very bad at...

Long division. Helping my son with homework has made me realise just how bad I am at maths.

The ideal night out is...

A night in which I get to dance or kiss.

In moments of weakness...

I tend to feel insecure.

You know me as an actress but in another life I'd have been a...

Children's nurse. I started acting early on in my life but it's a dream that's never really left me.

The best age to be is...

I would say six years old. At that age you are so innocent and happy, without a care in the world apart from which friend's house you can go over to and play in.

In a nutshell my philosophy is...

Stop crying, put on the kettle and everything will be just fine.
