Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Emilia Fox, 32, who stars in the BBC crime drama 'Silent Witness', supports National Aids Trust's World Aids Day. Go to www.worldaidsday.org

If I weren't talking to you right now, I'd be...

Doing an autopsy. Each episode of 'Silent Witness' I learn about an internal organ, disease or an unpronounceable medical word. You just never know when you'll need it for Scrabble.

A phrase I use far too often is...

"Lovely", "sorry" and "thank you". I mean all of them but get teased about using them too much.

I wish people would take more notice of...

World Aids Day. An awareness and communication are two of the ways we can stop this disease.

The most surprising thing that happened to me...

Was waking up to a house decked with flowers when Jared proposed to me.

A common misperception of me is...

I became an actress because my parents are. I didn't. I was just better at it than waitressing.

I'm not a politician but...

I'd like to be. I'd like to be a politician people felt glad they'd voted for because they see results that benefit them personally.

I'm good at...

Gardening.

But I'm very bad at...

Cooking.

The ideal night out is...

One that involves delicious food.

In a moment of weakness I...

Agreed to make a speech about the environment at the UN. I hope it was a request to humour me for their sake and mine.
