Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Born Jamal Noel Fyffe on 26 November 1990, Chipmunk is a rapper from north London. At the age of 14, he started selling his own mix tapes at school and this year, while sitting his A-levels, Chipmunk was signed by Sony. He has already had two top ten singles, has toured with fellow grime artist Tinchey Stryder, and all before his debut album 'I Am Chipmunk' is on Omnday (12 october) on Jive Records

My parents were... cool. They raised me and my brother and sister very well.

The flat I grew up in... was on an estate. It was a fun place to live and I learned a lot of things from it, like how to look after yourself in the big bad world.

When I was a child I wanted to be... footballer. I was very good, but I then started rapping and the transition just happened.

If I could change one thing about myself... I wouldn't change anything about myself because everything that happened happened for a reason, and is the reason why I am who I am today.

You wouldn't know it but I'm very good at...cooking. I can cook near enough anything, bit I can't cook fish.

You wouldn't know it but I'm no good at...anything that I don't do.

At night I dream of...it depends on my day, but normally it'll be about future my future, when I hope to be a very successful man.

What I see when I look in the mirror... is Chipmunk: a young ambitious person.

My favourite items of clothing... at the moment are my Louis shoes. They're brown chequered pumps, which I bought at the Louis Vuitton store. But I haven't worn them out yet, I've got too many trainers.

I wish I'd never worn ... there is nothing that I've worn that I wish I'd never worn. I have impeccable taste.

It's not fashionable but I like...I like what I like and that's usually in fashion. But I'd never ever wear skinny jeans. They don't look good.

I drive/ride... taxis.

My house is... clean. I'm hardly ever there so it just is what it is, but it's always to got to be clean and very hygienic.

My favourite building... is the Emirates building, it's my team's building innit. Since I was a kid Arsenal has been my team.

My favourite work of art... I haven't got one. I don't pay attention to those things if I'm honest.

A book that changed me...a book has never changed me, but my favourite is one called Holes. It's about some kids on a council estate; it's not that I relate to It, it's just clever in the way that it's written, with a hectic narrative.

Movie heaven...action films with a good storyline, like Boyz in the Hood.

The last album I bought/downloaded... was Dizzee Rascal's Tongue and Cheek. I haven't listened to it yet, but he's got a load of hits.

My secret crush... I don't really have a secret crush but Beyonce's out of this world.

My greatest regret...I'm a bit boring, I don't really have one. If you change the past then you change the future, so I wouldn't change a thing.

My real-life villain... I don't like ignorant people or people who don't listen to anyone but themselves.

The person who really makes me laugh... Jamie Foxx. The man's funny, mad funny, especially his stand up.

The last time I cried... was when my mate died years ago. He got killed when we were young.

My five year plan... is to do as much as I've done in the last year times five over. Hopefully I'll be somewhere nice. Yeah, I'll be in Jamaica, eating chicken and rice.

What's the point? Some people are born and die; other people are born, live, make a difference and then die.

My life in six words... Chipmunk, Jemal, music, God, money, family
