Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

If I weren't talking to you right now I'd be... picking my son Oscar up from nursery.
A phrase I use far too often is... ‘I’m tired’. As a working mum, it’s really hard to find time in the day to just relax and take a break. I am constantly on the go.
I wish people would take more notice of... cruelty to animals. I love animals and feel very strongly that people should not be allowed to buy a pet if they are not able to look after it.
A common misperception of me is... that I am much taller than I actually am. I am 5 ft 5 which is a pretty average height!
I'm not a politician but... as a parent, it worries me that there is so much information available on the internet. I would try and put bigger restrictions on certain websites.
I'm good at... art. I have always enjoyed drawing and painting but I don’t always find the time to do much these days.
But I'm very bad at... all things to do with the computer. My children will definitely be catching me up soon!
The ideal night out is... going to a lovely restaurant with good food, friends and family.
In moments of weakness I... have a cup of English Breakfast Tea. It always makes everything feel better.
My views on Facebook and Twitter are… negative. I am not a fan of Facebook or Twitter. They both allow too much information to be available and they make privacy a thing of the past.
In a truer life I'd have been... an expert in a certain field. I have always enjoyed history so maybe an expert in a particular era or period of time would have been good!
The best age to be is... the age I am now- over 30! You no longer have to strive to fit in or be something that you’re not. I think once you are over 30 people accept the way they are and actually start to enjoy life
In a nutshell, my philosophy is... live life to the full, make the most of every day and don’t waste time worrying!
Kirsty Gallacher is supporting Go Walkies events this summer across the UK, inviting families to come down and have fun on a family dog walk to raise money for Guide Dogs. Visit GuideDogs.org.uk for more details on how to get involved.
